Chelsea Jade (formerly Watercolours) combines sweet and sour see-saw songs; a protracted negotiation between discomfort and beauty, buoyancy and heft.

Chelsea Jade is a musician simmering with raw intensity. At the age of eighteen she ran away from her Auckland home, abandoning art school for New York City. While she walked around the city, Chelsea took field recordings with a handheld tape recorder. Collaborating with Justyn Pilbrow (Elemeno P), a fellow New Zealander, she crafted a series of songs based on these recordings working from a bedroom studio in Brooklyn.

Since then, she has performed alongside international heavyweights: Lorde, Cat Power, Dirty Projectors, Bloc Party, The Veils and Broken Social Scene. In 2012 Chelsea was awarded the NZ Music Awards’ Critics Choice Award. In 2014, she played two New York showcases at CMJ and was selected from over 6000 applicants to attend the Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo.

a mystical human...you get hypnotized into her emotive world.

Her music is complex yet immediately engaging; constantly evolving but always emotionally resonant. During her searing live performances, she is spontaneous, thrilling, and intensely captivating.

Her two EPs, PORTALS and BEACONS were released by Universal NZ and Rallye (Japan) in 2013 and 2014. A debut album is not far away...
